Hello, my name is Kenny Andrade and I’m the strength and conditioning coach for the Palm Beach Jr Hawks and the Palm Beach Blackhawks. My main goals are to provide the best training possible for the players as well as the parents and to guide each of you to achieve your goals. I’ve written this article on the benefits of strength training for the players and for the everyday moms and dads. For the most part, training is training, no matter how you look at it. But, it’s up to the individual’s goals that determine the intensity and the purpose of the training.

Parents  - there are so many reasons to take that first step to a beneficial workout - anaerobically and aerobically. But no matter what, the main reason is A BETTER LIFE STYLE. Here are a few benefits of training and hopefully these reasons will help you start a new and healthier lifestyle:

Weight training will help you:
- decrease your resting heart rate
- decrease your resting blood pressure
- decrease developing adult diabetes
- increase your metabolism, which slows down as we get older
- strengthens your bones which decreases the chance of osteoporosis
- improves muscular endurance
- increases HDL cholesterol (which is the good one)

These are a few reasons for strength training for the everyday population and remember, a good diet will increase the results.

Athletes - you guys are a special breed. Your body takes a beating day in and day out, so training should be part of your everyday life style. No matter what sport you play and no matter what playing level, your strength and conditioning is a crucial necessity to achieve your goals. Here are some strong pointers on why strength training is important and remember it doesn’t matter what level you’re at!

Strength training will help you:
-increase lean muscle mass
-increase muscular strength
-increase muscular power
-increase endurance
-increase your performance on the playing field
-improve flexibility, balance, agility
-increase injury prevention
-self confidence
