U16 HAWKS FINISH STRONG WITH 3-1 EARLY BIRD RECORD!
by E Benz posted 08/28/2010

The U16 Hawk squad put their Thursday night 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Golden Wolves behind them and strung three consecutive victories together, winning the Silver Championship of the Florida Jr Panther Early Bird Tournament. They defeated the Sharpshooters 5-1 Saturday morning and followed that up with an evening victory over the Tampa Jr Lightning 6-1. The tie breaker did not favor the Hawks, so they had to settle for a trip to the silver game against the Sharpshooters. They scored in every period while holding the Sharpshooters again to one goal for the 5-1 win and the 3-1 record! Click the following link to the U16 Hawks Team Page to get a recap of the weekend and to check on their upcoming games!

HAWKS & PALM BEACH MARINERS FOOTBALL PARTNER FOR EXPOSURE!!
by Ed Benz posted 08/21/2010

(Lake Worth) – The Palm Beach Hawks have an agreement of a cross-promotion deal with the Palm Beach Mariners, an adult amateur minor league football team in West Palm Beach. Like the Hawks, the Mariners are beginning their second season of play. The venture is a “win-win” situation for both organizations in an attempt to broaden their exposure to the local community this season. The Mariners and Hawks are building their programs and could use whatever free help is available to get the word out about their existence as very few people in the area not associated with either team know anything much about them.

The Mariners compete in the Southeast Football League (SEFL), which had 20 teams in Florida during the 2010 season. The SEFL season usually begins on the second Saturday in February, and every Saturday thereafter up until the Championship and All-Star Classic Event on Memorial Day weekend. The M’s, as they’re affectionately referred to, play their home games at the newly constructed Suncoast Stadium at Al Sutton Field in the City of Riviera Beach (located on the campus of the new Suncoast Community High School, 1717 Avenue ‘S’).

Owned and operated by Palm Beach Mariners Football Club Inc., the Mariners are run by their President, Avion Brown, and Executive Vice-President, Mark K. Trueblood. Brown also serves as Head Coach. The M’s opened the 2010 season with a 1-3 record, and then won 5 of their last six games to finish the regular season in a tie for second place in the Northeast Division and qualify for the post-season playoffs. They were subsequently defeated by the Knights of Miami at Gwen Cherry Park in the first round of the playoffs, 40-34.

Similar to the Palm Beach Skate Zone, the Mariners play at a “state-of-the-art” facility that is also home to its main tenants, the Suncoast Chargers athletic program. The venue
is equipped with an air-conditioned 3-room press box, natural grass turf, two (2) food concession and public restroom buildings (home and visitor), and energy efficient lighting for night games or events. The combination steel and aluminum bleacher design has a seating capacity of 3,889.

The facility is completely accessible to persons with disabilities that feature ADA specification ramps to the venue and lower concourse level of each grandstand, as well as all public amenities (restrooms and food concessions). Both grandstands have a total of 50 wheelchair viewing locations (34 in the home seating section, 16 in the visitors seating section). The generous fan parking area can hold up to 343 light passenger vehicles and includes 16 handicap spaces. There is an elevator that offers wheelchair access to the top concourse level of the home grandstand and press box area.

“Whatever helps, I’m all for it”, said Coach/Director John Ambrefe of the Hawks. “We’re stacked this year and we expect an even better season on the ice than last.”  “There are some similarities between the two organizations”, said Mariners Executive Vice-President Mark K. Trueblood. “Both organizations experienced some success during the inaugural season of operation by qualifying for post-season play in our respective leagues. So, we’re excited about this proposed partnership. I’m a big hockey fan so for me it’s Go Hawks!”

Trueblood stated that both organizations are planning to work together in various community service projects in the months to come and that announcements concerning such the dates of such will be issued as they become available.
“John (Ambrefe) and Tony Grout (Hawks Marketing Director) and I have talked and everyone seems to be on the same page with the goals of this agreement”, said Trueblood.

The Mariners open their 2011 season on February 12th. Their home game schedule will be released sometime after November 1, 2010. For more information on the Palm Beach Mariners, go to
